I came to Kuba with the intention to work on painting in a new environment for a month.

I found myself investing myself into painting in a way that I haven’t been able to before and really discovering pieces of myself in process. Sharon and Mika’s encouragement was a big part of this and so was the slow pace of the environment of Kuba.

I worked on a painting “Dreaming in scathing landscapes” where I was capturing a dream state to look at the landscapes we carry inside of us and how our connections form with these landscapes. I painted city scapes, plants and a fetus. More animalistic elements bled in as a result of the landscape of Kuba – every night I was met with a new creature as I was exploring the forest. This was a really unique element of inspiration in my work. I was able to play and experiment with colours, shapes and feelings.
